Investopedia: Best Short Term Stock Screener, 2024
Most tools traders compare with Trade Ideas do one part of the job: a screener you refresh, charts, news or options flow. Trade Ideas exists to catch stocks in the act of moving. Streaming Alerts are the scanner and the Top List is the screener. Holly AI Signals, OddsMaker backtesting and Money Machine work from the same live data. Every comparison below leads with the honest answer, including who the other tool is better for.
These are the tools people most often search for together with Trade Ideas. Each page checks the other company's own site for prices and features, and says plainly where the other tool is the better pick.
Finviz Elite is a fast screener you re-run, every 10 seconds on Elite. In Trade Ideas, each event reaches you through Streaming Alerts as it occurs. A common pairing is Finviz for evening prep and Trade Ideas during the session.
TrendSpider is a toolkit for designing, backtesting and automating your own chart strategies. Trade Ideas finds U.S. stocks while they move, flags chart patterns as they form, and adds Holly AI Signals during the session.
The closest like-for-like comparison: both scan U.S. stocks in real time. Scanz bundles news, filings and Level 2. Trade Ideas adds Holly AI Signals, OddsMaker testing and Money Machine.
Day one, either one hands you ready-made scans. Day Trade Dash gives you Ross Cameron's 24 preset scanners, charts and news. Trade Ideas adds themed Channel Bar channels in every plan, the free Trading Room and tools to grow into.
TradingView is the better charting tool. Trade Ideas is the better discovery tool for U.S. stocks. External Linking sends each symbol Trade Ideas finds straight to your TradingView chart.
Tickeron offers AI robots and pattern forecasts across several asset classes. Holly AI Signals work on U.S. stocks during the session, on top of a real-time scanner, and OddsMaker lets you test any setup yourself.
TC2000 is chart-first and strong value if charts are the center of your day. Trade Ideas is event-first: it reports a setup the moment it happens anywhere in the market.
A complement, not a replacement. Benzinga tells you why a stock moved. Trade Ideas shows what is moving now and whether that setup has historically paid.
thinkorswim is free for Schwab clients and strong on charts and options, and third-party testers report its Stock Hacker results refresh every few minutes. When the free scanner keeps catching moves late, that is the time to add Trade Ideas.
StocksToTrade offers preset small-cap screeners, its Oracle list and training. Trade Ideas starts you with ready-made channels, then lets you build the scan, test it in OddsMaker and automate it with Money Machine.
Unusual Whales is an options-flow service. Trade Ideas is a real-time stock scanner that also flags unusual options activity next to the price and volume setup on the same stock.
VectorVest rates every stock for value, safety and timing, with market timing guidance for investors. Trade Ideas finds U.S. stocks as they move, with Streaming Alerts, Holly AI Signals and OddsMaker testing.
Day Trade Dash is Warrior Trading's scanner, chart and news software, with 24 preset scanners. Trade Ideas pairs Streaming Alerts and Top Lists with the Channel Bar and OddsMaker.
ChartingLens posts 25 picks a day from one momentum rule, with charts across stocks, crypto, forex and metals. Trade Ideas reports the setups you choose across U.S. stocks while they happen.
MOMO Pro is a low-cost browser stream of momentum breaks, halts and news. Trade Ideas lets you combine 310 alerts and 249 filters, test the result in OddsMaker and get Holly AI Signals.
Every common alternative grouped by the job it does, with what it replaces and what you give up compared with Streaming Alerts, the Top List, Holly, OddsMaker and Money Machine.
Real-time scanners and screeners on a timer, side by side: Trade Ideas, Scanz, Day Trade Dash, StocksToTrade, Finviz Elite, TradingView, TC2000, TrendSpider and thinkorswim.
Leaving a specific tool? Our alternatives pages group the options by job: VectorVest, Warrior Trading, Finviz, TradingView, Day Trade Dash and more.
Traders also ask how Trade Ideas compares with these tools. Most do a different job from a real-time stock scanner, so a sentence is more useful than a full page. Descriptions come from each company's own site, checked in October 2026.

Whichever tool you are weighing, the same six pieces of Trade Ideas decide the comparison:
Holly AI Signals fire during the trading day with a symbol, an entry, stop and target. Holly is designed to look for stocks with large long-term potential. Many signals won't work out. You choose whether to exit the same day or hold, based on your risk.
All of it runs on Trade Ideas live market data. If you are okay with static non-refreshing data, Trade Ideas is probably not your best choice.
Trade Ideas also monitors unusual options activity across all stocks, with a channel of its own in TI Pro and in the Web Dashboard.
The scanner is built from 310 alerts and 249 filters, each documented in our help. Any alert works with any filters, every filter takes a min and max, and 191 alerts carry their own setting, such as the 0 to 366 day lookback on a New High. Opening range breakouts and breakdowns come as separate alerts at 1, 2, 5, 10, 15, 30 and 60 minutes (5-minute breakout). The combinations are effectively unlimited.
TI Standard (The Core): $127 for each month, or $1,068 paid yearly (close to $89/mo). Real-time data, 10 charts on screen, customizable scans and screeners, 310 alerts and 249 filters, price alerts, TI Wave, paper trading, in-app trading and Holly AI Assistant.
TI Premium (The Apex): $254 for each month, or $2,136 paid yearly (close to $178/mo). Adds Holly AI Signals, OddsMaker backtesting and Auto Trading.
Traders most often compare Trade Ideas with TrendSpider, Scanz, TradingView, Warrior Trading's Day Trade Dash, TC2000, Benzinga Pro, Finviz and Tickeron. Each one has a full comparison on this page.
Scanz is the closest like-for-like tool. Both watch U.S. stocks in real time and push matches to you without a refresh. Scanz bundles news, SEC filings and Level 2, while Trade Ideas adds Holly AI Signals, OddsMaker testing of your own setups and Money Machine automation.
For screening, yes. Finviz has a free version with delayed data and a screener that refreshes every 3 minutes, and the thinkorswim scanner is free for Schwab clients. Both are scans you run or that refresh on a timer rather than a stream of events, and neither includes Holly AI Signals.
TI Premium, at $254 a month or $2,136 a year (about $178 a month). TI Standard, at $127 a month or $1,068 a year (about $89 a month), includes real-time data, customizable scans and screeners, 310 alerts and 249 filters, TI Wave, paper trading and Holly AI Assistant.
Yes, and many traders do. Keep TradingView or thinkorswim for charts and orders, Benzinga Pro for news, or Finviz for evening research, and use Trade Ideas to find the stock while it is moving. External Linking in TI Pro can send each symbol you click to your TradingView chart.
