A natural language stock scanner: describe it, watch alerts stream

Type a setup in plain English, such as ‘new highs on unusual volume, $5 to $50’, and the AI Assistant builds a live Alert window with those alerts and filters. Stocks stream in as each alert fires. There’s no Refresh button to press.

Trade Ideas takes real-time data from every US exchange, plus all off-exchange trades and the NBBO, not Nasdaq Basic (see Nasdaq Basic vs Trade Ideas live market data →).

Scan prompts traders often start with:

  • “Alert me on stocks making new highs with unusual volume.”New high alerts plus a relative volume filter
  • “Show breakouts above yesterday's high, $5 to $50, pre-market too.”Breakout alerts, price range, extended hours
  • “Stream volume spikes on small caps under 20 million float.”Volume spike alerts with a float filter

What happens after you type the request

Say you type “stocks breaking above yesterday’s high on twice normal volume, $5 to $50, small caps.” Here is what the AI Assistant does with that, in plain terms:

  1. She picks the alerts. The breakout part becomes a real Trade Ideas alert that fires on the trade that crosses yesterday’s high.
  2. She sets the filters. Price between $5 and $50, relative volume of 2 or more, and a market cap limit for small caps, each as a min or max you can see.
  3. She opens the window. A live Alert window appears in Trade Ideas with those settings, and stocks start showing up the moment they qualify.
  4. You stay in charge. Every setting is out in the open. Change $50 to $30, drop the volume rule, add a float limit. It’s your scan; she just did the clicking.

That last part matters. A lot of AI tools hand you an answer you can’t look inside. Here you get an ordinary Trade Ideas window, the same kind experienced traders build by hand, so you can learn how it works by looking at what she made.

Why the stream matters for scanning

A scanner is only as quick as the data under it. Trade Ideas takes in every trade from every US exchange, plus off-exchange trades and the NBBO, and runs the alerts on that full feed. So when a stock breaks out on a print at a smaller exchange, the alert can fire on that print instead of waiting for a summary later.

For day traders that’s the difference between seeing a breakout while it’s happening and reading about it on the next refresh. For swing traders it means the end-of-day list was built from the whole market, not a slice of it.

Good first requests to try

If you’re new, start narrow and widen later. “Large caps hitting new 52-week highs” gives a calm list you can study. “Pre-market gappers over 5% with news” is a busier one for the morning. “Stocks dropping fast on heavy volume, over $10” shows the other side of the tape. Run one for a day, see what comes through, then tell her what to change. Save the windows you like so they She remembers nothing you don’t save, so save the windows you like.rsquo;re there tomorrow.

Stuck on a setting? Ask her.

The AI Assistant isn't only a scan builder. Ask her anything about how to use Trade Ideas, like “How do I change the alert sound?” or “What does Smart Stop mean?”, and she answers right in the software. New traders often skip the manual and just ask.

AI stock scanner questions

What is an AI stock scanner?

It's a scanner you set up by describing what you want instead of clicking through settings. In Trade Ideas, you tell the AI Assistant what to watch for and she builds a live alert window that streams stocks the moment they trigger.

Is this a natural language stock scanner?

Yes. You type plain English, like “stocks making new highs on unusual volume,” and she turns it into real alerts and filters you can see and edit.

Is the AI Assistant good for day trading?

That's what a lot of folks use it for. Alerts stream in real time during regular and extended hours, so you see breakouts and volume spikes as they happen, not on the next refresh.

Which plans include the AI Assistant?

Both TI Standard and TI Premium. You can also open a free account with just an email, no card, to look around.

Is the AI Assistant the same as Holly AI?

No. Holly AI is the signal engine in TI Premium. The AI Assistant is the helper that builds your windows and answers questions about the software.

Can she send a scan straight to OddsMaker?

Not yet. She builds the scan window; to backtest it, you set it up in the OddsMaker window yourself.

Results are not typical. Trading involves risk; most day traders lose money. Past and simulated results don't guarantee future results.

Past results, including backtests, don't guarantee future results.
