POET Technologies: Watching for Opportunity After the Selloff

POET Technologies: Watching for Opportunity After the Selloff

There are certain stocks that capture the market’s imagination for a short period of time, and right now POET Technologies ($POET) is one of them.

If you pull up the daily chart, you can immediately see why traders have been paying attention. This stock had an explosive move — climbing from roughly the $6 area all the way to about $20 in a remarkably short amount of time. Those types of runs always attract momentum traders, short-term speculators, and investors looking for the next emerging story.

But then came Friday’s announcement.

The company announced a financing deal, raising approximately $400 million at $21 per share. Now, normally when traders hear the word “financing,” the knee-jerk reaction is dilution — and that’s exactly what we saw in the market. The stock has been under heavy pressure ever since.

However, I think it’s important to step back and really look at the bigger picture here.

For a company that was trading around $6 not that long ago, being able to raise that kind of capital at $21 is actually a strong statement. It suggests institutional interest and confidence in the company’s future prospects. Companies don’t always get the opportunity to raise money at premium levels like that.

Now, does dilution matter? Absolutely. Existing shareholders never love seeing their ownership percentage reduced. But sometimes the market overreacts to these announcements, especially after a stock has already had a major momentum run.

That’s why I’m keeping this one on my watchlist.

At the moment, the stock still looks weak intraday, and I’m not necessarily rushing in today trying to catch a falling knife. But if the selling pressure begins to stabilize and buyers start stepping back in, this could become an interesting bounce setup later in the week.

One thing traders need to remember is that after emotional selloffs, some of the best trading opportunities can emerge — especially in stocks that already have strong momentum history and elevated market attention.

The key will be watching how POET reacts around support levels and whether volume starts to shift back toward accumulation rather than distribution.

For now, patience is important.

Sometimes the best trade is simply being ready before the crowd realizes the selling may have gone too far.
