Barrie Einarson: Why Traders Need to Stop Chasing and Start Waiting

One of the biggest mistakes I see traders make every single day is chasing extended moves instead of waiting for confirmation. The market rewards patience far more than impulsiveness. If you’re constantly jumping into stocks after they’ve already made massive moves, you’re usually providing liquidity for smarter traders who planned the trade earlier. Right now, the market environment continues to reward disciplined execution. We’re seeing traders pile into momentum names without understanding the overall trend structure, volume behavior, or key moving averages. That’s dangerous.

The best setups often come when:

  • A stock pulls back into support
  • Volume contracts
  • The trend remains intact
  • Relative strength stays strong versus the market

That’s where probability starts shifting in your favor.

I always tell traders to focus on:
✅ Risk management first
✅ Position sizing second
✅ Entries third

Because without managing risk, even the best setups can wipe you out emotionally and financially.

Another important thing traders need to understand is that not every day is a trading day. Sometimes the best trade is no trade at all. Preserving capital during choppy market conditions is a strategy, not weakness.

Watch sectors closely. Leadership rotates constantly. One week it’s semiconductors, the next it’s energy or small caps. If you’re not adapting, the market will humble you quickly.

At the end of the day, consistency beats excitement. Professional traders survive because they follow systems, not emotions.

Stay patient. Stay disciplined. Let the charts come to you.
