Well, today we’re doing something a little different, guys. Instead of highlighting a fantastic trade, I want to show you just how difficult trading can be sometimes.
Let’s take a look at BLZE (Backblaze), an earnings play that looked incredibly promising in the pre-market.
And when I say promising, I mean everything seemed to be lining up!
The company beat revenue expectations, beat earnings expectations, and raised its guidance. That’s exactly the kind of news traders like to see.
Naturally, we were all watching this one closely in the pre-market.
BLZE was showing strength and attempting to hold around VWAP. We were watching to see whether it could stay above the $10 level once the regular trading session began.
Around 9:20 a.m., things were still looking pretty good. There was a real possibility that BLZE could make another run higher after the opening bell.
But then look what happened!
Instead of continuing higher, the stock started selling off. And it wasn’t just a small pullback. We saw some absolutely massive red candles as the price dropped sharply.
Now, the stock was still up approximately 8.9% on the day at the time of recording, but it had given back a significant portion of its earlier gains.
And that’s what makes this so interesting.
On paper, everything looked great. Strong earnings, better-than-expected revenue, raised guidance, and promising pre-market price action.
But the market had other ideas.
This is exactly why trading can be so challenging.
Just because a company reports great earnings doesn’t mean its stock will continue climbing. Sometimes the market reacts in ways that are completely different from what traders expect.
That’s why I always emphasize watching the actual price action, paying attention to important levels like VWAP, and managing your risk.
You can’t trade based solely on what you think a stock should do.
You have to respond to what it’s actually doing.
BLZE is a perfect reminder that even the most promising setups don’t always work out.
And sometimes, understanding why a trade didn’t develop as expected is just as valuable as studying a winning trade.
