Histogram: Part 3

6 histogram why no data 1 A frequent question we get is "why am I not getting any data in my alert window? There can me several causes, and it’s in our FAQ. I’m going to show you some tools to solve this issue. Since we've been looking at the Show Me feature's graph for filters in the configure window. Let's take a look. A lot of stocks meet the price, that couldn’t' be the problem. A lot of stocks meet the volume criteria, that isn't the problem. [edit out his Volume 1 minute thing] A lot of stocks meet the daily volume criteria, so that also isn't causing the lack of data. Now let's look at the chart for up from the close. Oops! Something is wrong here. Maybe I meant to enter $0.50 here? Or maybe I had it backwards? The way I had it I was only looking at thed outside. So that filter setting was clearly causing the problem. [cut the rest of this video] 7 Histogram why no data 2 Let’s look at another example of how to figure out which filter may be causing you to not see data. The previous example was very simple. Here's another one: Here I’ve added a minimum volatility. I want stuff that moves a lot. This is definitely the extreme, but like I said I want the stuff that moves a lot. I'm also looking at a narrower price compared to normal. As you can see from both the volatility graph and this price graph, I've cut some stuff off, but there's still a lot in here. So neither filter was a problem on its own. But let’s see how they mix. I want to see how these price settings compare to the rest of my filters? What do we see? Clearly most of the prices are bigger than what we expect. See here, there are a lot of stocks in this price range, but there are very few that meet my other criteria, particularly my volatility in this price range. Ass you can see this range is tighter than you think. So, if you want volatile stocks, you need to allow for higher priced stocks. Or change the volatility to be something smaller.

Histogram: Part 4

8 Histogram custom filters continued: Let's look at another interesting case... Let's look at the histogram for what is up in 5 minutes. Whoa! So what does this mean? There is stuff outside, it’s just hard to see. What this is showing is there are a lot of stocks that just don't move a heck of a lot in 5 minutes. And here, most of them are in the middle, right at 0. So they haven't moved in the last 5 minutes. Let's take a look at it with my filters. Still 0 is the common point, but the chart is more readable and you can see some better examples. That's what your other filters are for - to help you find the stuff that you want. 9 Histogram - Different exchanges: We've looked at how your filter settings can affect the data you are able to see with your strategies. Now, we'll see how the exchanges you select can affect the type of stocks you will see. Here I am selecting to see only the Over the Counter / Bulletin Board stocks. Now let's look at the graph for price between $1 and $100. We can see there's a count of almost 7,000 stocks between $1 and $100 for the market in general. Now if I change the histogram to only include my exchanges, in this case the Over The Counter exchanges, we can see how few stocks on the OTC/Bulletin Boards fit between $1 and $100. Most of the stocks on the OTC are under a dollar, that's why we call them "penny stocks".
