Reducing Latency and Increasing Bandwidth in Your Trading Environment

Hi. Let's discuss two common questions that I get at the Trade-Ideas help desk. One is "how do I reduce my latency?" Notice this number on the status bar. This is your latency. It says how much time it takes a message to get from our server to your client. Lower numbers are better. Another common question is "How do I make your software work with our corporate firewall?" There are several answers, but switching into HTTP mode is often the simplest. This switch will get around most firewalls. Did you notice anything? The latency just jumped up! These two issues are related. The HTTP mode works in more places than the default mode, but it is slower. If TI does not work with your firewall, the best thing to do is to tell your system administrator to give you the appropriate access. The HTTP mode is only meant as a temporary measure, in case your IT department is slow. HTTP mode also reduces your bandwidth. You don't usually notice it because Trade-Ideas requires so little bandwidth. But take a look at this. This video is so old, I need to update it! This was recorded back when all of our data was HTTP. Try bringing up an alert window on your computer, and see how much faster it is now. You probably have a lot of applications that use HTTP. That's become popular recently with all this cloud computing. But HTTP is not always good. That's why we give you the choice.
