This is an introduction to the OddsMaker software, a separate add-on within Trade-Ideas Pro. This module was built to give Trade-Ideas users the ability to backtest their custom configuration of alerts and filters. This component answers the question of what would have happened in I bought or sold short a stock at the time the alert is generated. The user can define specific hold time or other exit criteria to optimize profitability. To start the analysis, press the green start button. This will bring to focus the Configure OddsMaker window. This configuration window is broken down into 6 sections. First, select a direction, UP means that you plan to buy or go long the stock and are looking for the price to increase. DOWN means that you plan to sell short, and are looking for prices to decline. Next you have to select dollars or percent. Select dollars if you typically buy the same number of shares each time you buy a stockr regardless of price. Select percent if you typically buy a specific dollar amount, regardless of the number of shares. You then need to select the minimum move size. This is the number of dollars or percent that you want a stock to move either up or down before you consider it a success. These fields can be jointly used to incorporate potential slipage and/or anticipated commissions. Below the success criteria is space to specify more about the entry condition; what time we want to begin initiating new positions and what time we will stop initiating new positions. In this example, 30 is in the top right box indicating entrys will not be initiated until 30 minutes after the open. There are 6 hours and 30 minutes in the trading day. Profit Target / Stop Loss gives you additional ways to exit a position. Use the checkboxes to select the options you wantprovides for upside and downside risk control. The top one is always the profit target. If the stock moves in the desired direction by this much, you will exit immediately. The bottom one is always the stop loss. If a stock moves against you by this much, you will immediately exit. Wiggle is the stocks 15 minute volatility times its relative volume. Other Exit Conditions provides additional ways to exit before the specified time, in certain cases. Percent trailing stop and bars trailing stop will simulate the trailing stop implemented by most trading platforms. Another alert allows you to select an alert as an exit criteria. Initially this option is grayed out. You need to hit the configure button to describe the alerts you want before using this option. The default, none, indicates that you will only exit the alert based on time, and optionally the profit target or stop loss. Exit time says when you get out of a trade. You can specify a certain number of minutes after entry for an exit condition or a certain number of minutes before the close. The OddsMaker also has the capability of analyzing overnight holds, exiting at the market open the following day.
